Baan Hat Pa Kon Village Homestay
in the Province of Nan

The village of Baan Hat Pa Kon is situated in the northern Thai province of Nan. From here you can see the mountain ranges that separate this remote area from Laos. In this mountainous area on the Nan river lies the beautiful Thai village of Baan Hat Pa Kon.

There are no wars but there is poverty - as you will see when you come here.

The cost per adult per day for a homestay is just Baht2,500 and children from 5-13 half that with babies free. For a family of four two adults and two children the daily rate of Baht7,500 equates to about US$200 per day - and this includes all meals and bus transfers to and from the village from Bangkok! For your money you get a unique cultural experience and the opportunity to go river rafting, go on elephant treks, walks and visiting the sights of the nearby city of Nan - including their fabulous museum and markets.

There is a deposit payable to secure your booking.

Our agents in Thailand will meet you at Bangkok and Nan and ensure that your village homestay experience runs smoothly.

Accommodation:

Accommodation at our participating village houses is quite basic with foam mats on the floor, bathing from a bucket (no showers) in traditional Thai fashion and septic tank toilets.

We have established an association with a committee of ladies from the village who rotate our guests in the best homes in the village so that the money received by the villagers is shared evenly throughout the community.

Are village homestays for you?

This is not for backpackers who want a party experience. This is for families, small groups and individuals who want to experience the Thai culture. You will not experience this in the hotels and your accommodation costs are a fraction of the price you will pay elsewhere. the village of Baan Hat Pa Kon can only take about twenty guests at any time.

It is important to understand that you are not staying at  hotel. You are staying in a village house and will be eating with your hosts. This is a hands-on cultural experience - you will see appalling poverty yet amazing resilience and joy in the faces of children who have little or nothing - a wonderful lesson for your children on important human values.

Feel free to take gifts, unwanted second hand clothing and school books etc.. when you go to these villages because they will certainly be loved by the villagers.
